Modern Paintings in Indian Art History

  • The Modern Indian art movement in Paintings of India is believed to have begun in Calcutta in the late nineteenth century. Initially, Indian artists drew on Western traditions and methods, including oil painting and easel painting. Post the impact of Western influence led to a revival in primitivism, called the Bengal school of art, which drew from the rich cultural heritage of India. Then the other schools had contributed to the ideology of rural folk and rural life. Indian Art got a boost from India's economic liberalization of the country since the early 1990s where artists across the country started bringing in varied styles of work. In post-liberalization India, artists from across the country have established themselves in the international art market. Indian artworks are beginning to get into the USA's art houses and galleries and are only possible through artists' interest in listening and understanding. Every painting, every sculpture, every work of wall art tells a story, which was the foundation of modern Indian art. The artwork stimulates the viewer to think and understand rather than simply a sub-position. Modern Indians, from abstract art to surrealistic to Cubism to the metaphor, enrich the viewer's view with new ideas and feelings. Indian art constantly echoes the sense and emotion derived from vision, and ecstasy is the most potent human motive in creating art. The thought of owning a piece of art that has witnessed the Indian Independence or survived through the Partition, having played a role in developing world history, as we know it today, is invaluable. Those decisive moments in time, which were near-miss to be captured, resulting in a significant increase in the value of art created in those eras.
